THE OPPOSITION

Meet the bots

Retro arcade character-select screen for the Prometheus carbon trading bots: the Aggressor, the Operator, the Patient, the Stubborn, the Panicker, the Hoarder and the Free Rider, each drawn as a distinct trader portrait.

Every bot you trade against encodes a real, documented market behaviour. None of them are arbitrary game flavour, and none of them are there to be beaten by a trick. They are the recurring characters of a compliance market: the buyer who will not risk ending the year short, the one who refuses to pay up and sometimes wins nothing, the one still pricing off a view of the market that stopped being true a year ago.

That is the whole teaching mechanism. A price only moves because someone chose to bid differently, so watching a room of distinct motives collide is how you learn why the clearing price lands where it does, and why it lurches when the benchmark tightens. Read the personalities below, then go find out which one you are.

  • The Aggressor

Overpays, but never goes home empty. Bids above the expected price to secure volume.

  • The Operator

Trades steadily through the round, adjusting as the price moves.

  • The Patient

Shades its bids hard and sits near the floor. Often wins nothing, but never overpays.

  • The Stubborn

Updates its price expectations slowly. Still trading on last year’s view of the market.

  • The Panicker

    Coming soon

Buys every spike, sells every dip.

  • The Hoarder

    Coming soon

Banks far more than it needs, sells only when forced.

  • The Free Rider

    Coming soon

Ignores the market until the compliance window, then scrambles.

The first four personalities trade live in Easy Mode today. The Panicker, the Hoarder and the Free Rider are designed but not yet wired into the auction. They are on the way, and this page will say so when they arrive.

Trade against them

Reading how a market behaves only gets you so far. Take a firm, take an obligation, and find out what these four do to the price when you are the one on the other side.
